Pain

Today I discovered the source of pain that I’ve been living with for the past week. Tooth  pain. I learned that I have a tooth with a very long and windy root with an abscess lingering at the very end. The pain will be rectified with a root canal.

And this gave me pause to think about other forms of pain that I live with on an ongoing basis. Pain that I strive to bury but that despite my best efforts occasionally surfaces. Pain that can’t be rectified with a root canal. Pain that blocks me from bliss, from joy, from life. Pain that keeps me small. Pain that keeps me hidden from myself. Pain that keeps me from sharing myself with the world.

It’s the pain of forgetfulness. It’s the pain of fear. Of vulnerability. Of seeing who I really am and why I’m here.

It’s pain that doesn’t require a root canal to be set free of. It merely requires courage. A smile. A reminder. Some loving support for who we really are.

It’s pain that can be transformed in remarkably short fashion. Yes, transformed. Living with pain is a choice. Living with freedom, grace, compassion, and love is a choice.

Join me. Let’s choose freedom, grace, compassion and love. And might we invite our clients to revel in their beauty rather than their pain? Might doing so release a bit more of our own pain?
